4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 591 ratings

I-Day is near at hand, and soon the Fangborn will reveal themselves to humankind. As a member of this secretive race of werewolves, vampires, and oracles, will archaeologist Zoe Miller be prepared?

Still grappling with the newfound powers she gained after opening Pandora’s box, Zoe shares the responsibility of protecting “Normal” humans. Having long preferred to keep to the shadows, she knows the pending revelation of the Fangborn will set the world on fire. With Fangborn enemies in the Order of Nicomedia forcing their hand, Zoe and her supernatural Family have no choice but to step into the spotlight. But that decision has garnered the attention of the powerful and otherworldly beings known as the Makers. They claim to have created the Fangborn—not as saviors, but as predators. And it seems they have their own plans for Zoe…and for the fate of all the Fangborn.

Filled with stunning twists, Hellbender takes the Fangborn series to a thrilling new dimension.

If you’ve been reading along in the series, asking questions and waiting for the answers, well here they are. Many loose plot lines from previous books are tied up in this novel. How things work: magic, Fangborn, and otherwise, as well as our girl Zoe grows up. Figuratively speaking, but she does set standards for herself, starts relying on herself more while still taking advice as compared to earlier books where she desperately was seeking others opinions and trying to shoulder the responsibilities off on others. Here, by the end she takes matters into her own hands (so to speak) and sets things right. She also chooses between Will and Adam…
Really enjoyable book, esp. since the other ones in the series sort of dragged on for me, this book brought them all together and rewarded me for sticking it out. I liked the relatable and fleshed out characters and was able to immerse myself in the world. When the next one comes, I will be looking forward to it.

Pure entertainment. A quick read. Action packed with enough plot twists to keep it interesting. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series, so far and this did not disappoint.

Zoe is back. I-Day is approaching fast and she is still learning to control her powers, trying to stop the Order, dealing with dragons, negotiating with the Makers, and trying to make a decision about her love life. What a fun, wild ride following Zoe and everything she faces. I love how she doesn’t lose sight of her human side and protects her ever growing family. The dialog is well done and salted with fun, geeky, SF references that kept me smiling. This is a fantastic addition to the amazing Fangborn series. I hope there are many more.

Totally unnecessary grammatical mistakes. I have loved the the story, plot development, and character development in all three books of the trilogry, but the grammatical mistakes and low language level are mystifying and I am having to force myself to finish the third book. According to the author's biography, she is an educated person. Some of the characters in the books have Ph.Ds. Why, then, are their grammar and language level so poor? The mistakes are not even consistent; for example, the use (or better, non-use) of subjunctive. Why does the author use it only once in a while? Do readers get offended by correct grammar? And instead of using "that," why leave it out (which is actually very common common when speaking) or replace it with a comma (which is totally incorrect) . Why know what's correct and not use it? To "dumb it down" for "dumb" readers? How insulting! What a pity to purposely (?) reduce the quality of the writing. If not for this, I would have given all three books five stars. I wanted to give the last book two stars but didn't have to heart to do it. Please get a good editor!

4 stars because this book contained more of the enjoyable traits of our protagonist with a whole lot less whining; her acceptance of who and what she is was a relief.

I liked the dragon's interactions, while their dialogue was a different perspective than what the humans and ware wolfs had.

I do this the ending was too abrupt with little build up, where the reader gets that sense that the story is ending, it was more like, maybe this will work for and end rather than this should end more in line with the main character and her interactions with the Makers.

All in all, I would recommend the series.

I read but mostly listened via accompanying audio version through Kindle Unlimited.

The narration was excellent.

Was captivated by the first book enough that I wanted to immediately continue on into book two. The second book kept me engaged. It is now 3:30 a.m. and I have just finished book three. This was a wonderful series with a very interesting take on archaeology, science and the paranormal and I hope you will find it as engaging as I did.

I wasn't as keen on this series as I usually am. I just couldn't seem to get into it. I only purchased "Hellbender" because the second book ended on a cliff - hanger, and the only way to find out the ending was to buy the book. Surprisingly, it is the best book in the series.
